The right of a trial by jury is the privilege of every person in the United States. This right is guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Nevada.

The Importance of Jury Service

Jury service is one of the most important civic duties you can perform. The protection of rights and liberties in District Courts largely is achieved through the teamwork of judge and jury. You do not need any knowledge of the legal system to be a juror. Through service on a jury citizens have a direct hand in the administration of justice. Jury service is a privilege and a responsibility that should be accepted with pride. The justice system cannot work fairly unless jurors perform their duties properly.

One Trial Jury System

The District Court operates under a "one trial" jury system. If a juror is selected to sit on a trial the juror serves until the trial is completed. After the trial, the juror is exempt from service for two years. If a juror is not selected for the trial, the juror's name is placed back into the jury pool to be summoned at a later date.
